What's the story?

While speaking to CBS Sport on their 'In this Sport' podcast, WWE Superstar Chris Jericho spoke about a host of things, including being removed from the Casket Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

In case you didn’t know…

The Greatest Royal Rumble event is set to take place next Friday at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In addition to the 50-man Royal Rumble match, the event boasts many marquee matches including a Casket Match between The Undertaker and Rusev.

After the match was first announced, just a day or so later, WWE announced that Rusev would be replaced by Chris Jericho in the Casket Match. In a surprising turn of events, a few more days later, the company announced that Rusev was back in the match once again.

The heart of the matter

A lot of speculation is in the air about why Rusev was initially removed from the match, or why he was added back to it, but neither WWE nor the Superstars themselves have confirmed the reason.
While on the podcast, Jericho commented on the situation, saying that such things happened all the time in WWE and that at this point in his career, Y2J was ready to do anything the company asked him to. Here is what he had to say (H/t: Wrestling Inc.):

"For me, at this point, whether they want me to be part of the Royal Rumble or work against Undertaker or work against Funaki in a Lingerie Match, whatever they want me to do there, I will. That's the good thing about my legacy and where I am at this point of my career. I can be the opening match or the main event, whatever it is, it's going to be good. Things changed, which is part of the world of WWE, happens all the time.

He also played down the whole situation, saying that the fans sometimes got overly excited about something that did or did not happen.

"For me, until I actually walk into the ring, sometimes you never know what is going to happen. Things get changed during the show sometimes. I think fans sometimes get a little to excited about certain things that happened and didn't happen."

What's next?

WWE have announced that Y2J will be a part of the 50-man Royal Rumble match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event set to take place April 27th. The show will stream live on the WWE Network.

Author's take

While it is true that plans get changed in WWE all the time, sometimes in the last minute, it seems like maybe this time there is more to the story than being let on by Jericho. Or maybe not. There's certainly no way to find out for sure, at this point.
